The HEAR Program. Maybe you’ve heard it? It stands for Home Electrification and Appliance Rebates and it is a federal rebate program that helps people cover the cost of switching to efficient electric appliances, like heat pumps, in their homes. We can say that it was one of the best programs to take advantage of and Martha did exactly that.
And in case you’re wondering, unfortunately the funding ran out so fast that it’s now closed to new applicants. But fear not! There are still plenty of rebates for heat pumps to go around throughout Colorado, and the Denver Metro area.
It’s easy to get overwhelmed by all the rebates and timelines so it’s important to work with a company that can put your mind at ease, crunch the numbers, and handle the paperwork.
When Martha came to us after finding us on the HEAR list of approved contractors, she wanted to utilize the rebates before a 90-day contractor selection deadline. Her previous contractor was booked out, and so when she reached out to us, we stepped in to make sure she didn’t miss out on saving money.
The Home
This was a historical home built all the way back in 1911, and when working in a beautiful home with so much character, aesthetics are just as important to us as they are the home owner.
Where we place the outdoor heat pump condenser matters, so we made sure to keep that in mind to protect the home’s charm. Doing something like placing a brick riser pad instead of a standard metal stand, is something we love to do if that keeps the feel you are desiring for your home.
Martha’s late husband had originally run the home’s electrical, so she had a vintage breaker box that needed upgrading to support the heat pump. We brought in and partnered with Colorado Home Services who is also a HEAR-approved contractor, and she got a very large discount on the panel upgrade.
It was honestly one of the biggest upgrade discounts we’ve ever seen!
An old home like Martha’s might not always be simple to work in, but we managed the install with ease and helped her save money in the process.

The Heat Pump Equipment
Martha’s home ended up with 3-zone, 2-ton LG RED mini-split system which helped her sleep more comfortably at night and have full room-to-room control of all the spaces in her home.
We did a full audit of the home, made note of each room’s characteristics, worked with Martha on her preferences for mini split/indoor unit types, and designed from there.
We then installed two wall-mount indoor mini split ductless head units in two of the rooms. And due to the unique nature of her upper bedroom’s ceiling and wall structure, the third zone included a new ductless slim 1-Way ceiling cassette unit. The benefit of these types is that they fit in between the ceiling joists, so no cutting into your joists is needed!

What it was like
Working with Martha was a pleasure. She even complimented one of our installers for carrying some of her late husband’s old tools up the stairs during the visit.
Anything we can do to keep our customers comfortable and supported is non-negotiable. Something like carefully updating the work her late husband did by hand, while preserving the home they built a life in, expresses that “handle with care” isn’t just an expression for us.
Martha’s home also had NO cooling before we installed the heat pump, so now she’s able to live and sleep in controllable comfort on those brutally hot Denver summer days.
The Payoff
Martha was able to feel at ease as we guided her through the HEAR program process and got her across the finish line quicker to help with any of her rebate timeline anxiety. Here was everything that she was able to save:
Xcel Energy: $4,875 heat pump bonus rebate
Colorado State Heat Pump Tax Credit: $1,000
Colorado HEAR Program: $8,000 for the heat pump and $2,400 for the electrical wiring for the heat pump.
Colorado HEAR Program: $4,000 towards her new electrical panel upgrade
Total: $20,275 in total rebates*
*Once again we are sorry to report that all HEAR funding has been claimed, and it’s not available anymore.
