In order for us to provide you with the most accurate analysis and smooth BPI Certified energy audit while onsite, we need to request some initial information from you about your home, and share how the audit will go so there are no surprises.

Let’s Get Ready For An Awesome Energy Audit!

Please go through the following list to prepare your home and submit some initial information before we arrive.

1. Submit Your Energy Bills

To most accurately model your home’s yearly energy usage, we request the last 12 months of both your electricity and gas usage separately. This allows us to calculate your baseline usage for both energy sources, see if there is any abnormal energy waste, energy spikes, and more.

It’s important that we break out electricity and gas, and will be great information to have for not only an energy audit, but for future upgrades with air sealing, potential insulation, heat pump water heaters and HVAC system replacements, and more.

2. Tell Us About Your Home

In the same form above and just below the energy use table, feel free to add any trouble spots or known home performance issues you may want us to look into while we’re there. The more specific the better! Here’s the form link again.

3. No Fires 24 Hours Prior To The Audit Please

We will be performing a blower door test, which depressurizes the house (sucks air out of it) at a high velocity. This can upset your fireplace and bring ash into your home! To avoid this, please do not make any fires or burn anything in the home for a day or two before our visit.

4. Please Read Through Our Pre-Audit Checklist and Submit the Requested Information

Please read through the rest of these preparations for our visit to ensure the audit goes smoothly:

Attic – Remove clothing, boxes, furniture, and other obstructions to allow us to get into the attic. This is so that we can check air leaks, insulation levels, potential moisture or leakage, and other issues.
Crawlspaces and Basements – similar to the attic, we need to have access and clear visuals into the crawlspace and basement areas for the same reasons.
Room Access – Just a heads up that we will be entering every room of the house in order to be the most accurate onsite.
Mechanical Room Access – To test for health, safety, proper airflow, and more, we’ll need access to the mechanical room where your water heater and/or your HVAC system is. Please remove any hazards and provide clear access to these systems.
Close All Windows and Doors – In order to accurately measure home air leakage with our blower door test, we will need all windows and doors closed and locked. We ask you to lock them because sometimes they can be forced open during the blower test due to the air pressure.

5. Plan For Some Noise and Change In Temperature

In order for us to conduct proper testing, we’ll need to use and will be using many pieces of specialized equipment. We’ll also need to be turning on and off nearly all appliances, fans, and systems in your home for testing. This includes bathroom exhaust fans, your water heater, your HVAC/air conditioning/heating system, kitchen exhaust vents, and more.

It may get noisy and little uncomfortable for a few hours, given that we are using the blower door to depressurize (suck out out of) your home for 10-15 minutes. The temperature swings and return to normal temperatures will take longer during the more extreme months (very hot or very cold days), but fear not, this is only temporary. The blower door tester can also be a bit noisy, but this test should run for more than 10-15 minutes in most cases.

We just want to let you know of how your normal flow (no pun intended) might be affected a bit during the audit. We appreciate you allowing us to conduct the testing according to BPI Certification standards, and also any requirements needed by local or utility authorities so that you can maximize rebates as well.

7. Have Your Xcel Account Number Ready

Xcel Energy requires us to fill out a couple of forms for their own records during our audit. Please have your Xcel account number handy so that we can fill the forms out quickly onsite.

8. Get Ready For Your Audit Report!

There is a lot of data, pictures, and information we collect while onsite. We then do some calculations and modeling of your home afterward in order to build the full, multi-page report. This will take us a few days to do. We’ll email the report when finished!

 Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. My old furnace was 26 years old. It still worked, but its motherboard was outside of where it was supposed to be. It had been MacGuyvered by the last furnace repairman in 2019, who told me that the warehouse that kept Lennox replacement parts for their older models had been flattened by a tornado, so the older parts were no longer available. Today, I have a heat pump installed. The outside unit is so quiet that I can barely hear it from the back door, about 15 ft away. The installers just left about 30 minutes ago, and the temperature has already dropped 1°F. Plus heat pumps are far more energy efficient than regular furnaces, gas or electric. If you're in Denver metro and are looking for this same change up, may I recommend Just Heat Pumps? The company is owned by someone I used to work with at NREL, so I knew they'd be ethical. Their installers were wonderful at wrangling around my five cats, were on time, and worked hard and professionally over the course of the two-day installation.

Our finished basement can be uncomfortably cool and our garage can get really hot in summer.  We did a mini split in both locations.  Did try the basement one last night, so effective and quiet.  The poured in place pad for the unit outside is impressive.  All the people we had contact with were outstanding and all were willing to go out of their way for the customer. From the very first call to the final walk through of our new heat pump-based HVAC system, I received nothing but excellent communication and service from Just Heat Pumps. I saved THOUSANDS - more than TEN GRAND after qualifying for and stacking incentives and rebates to replace our 43 year old system. Just Heat Pumps made it easy by handling most of the paperwork. The installers (Justin and Kevin) were fast and friendly and the electrician (Evan) was so good that we're hoping he can do some other work for us. I was very happy with his work - he is very knowledgeable, friendly and was all round a pleasure to have visit my home. I am looking forward to the quote and would be very comfortable with having him do the work. Update a few months later: I went with JHH for my heat pump, and I am very glad that I did. They did a fantastic job, quoted very competitively, installed a high quality unit, and have been extremely responsive with my questions after the fact. There was a small issue with my electrical circuit (not the unit itself) and the owner came down in the middle of the night at 3f to bring space heaters to keep us comfortable until a fix could be made.  Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Just Heat Pumps was really wonderful to work with as we installed a heat pump in our house to replace a gas furnace and AC. Initially, I took out multiple quotes from other recommended HVAC companies but overall I felt like I wasn't getting the time and attention to my home's issues. I had major temperature differentials between the 1st and 2nd floor and air pressure differences in rooms that compounded the issue. It seemed like other companies didn't really take that seriously. I also got multiple different heat pump size recommendations. So I took about 6 months to research the science and by the end of that I finally found Just Heat Pumps with a very scientific and responsive approach. During the first visit, they really spoke about the system in a way that matched my research. The quote they provided was very straightforward and they did not deviate from that original pricing. The installation process was very professional and the folks kept my house nice and clean, with quality installation of the air handler and ducting. Based off the pressure differentials, the installation team came up with a inventive, yet cost effective duct system that allows air to circulate throughout the rooms upstairs without light and sound transfer (to help my baby). They also worked with an electrician that knew his stuff (Ampro) and he set us up nicely, futureproofing our house. Xerxes and team have visited multiple times since installation to check on performance and are very responsive. Plus their website has lots of helpful info on rebates, etc. Overall, Just Heat Pumps was great to work with. Compared to others, their prices seem slightly higher, but I would say that it is a premium well worth it. With performance, the Fujitsu heat pump did well in the recent cold snap. It was also helping in the tail end of the summer with the hot upstairs. The overall comfort of the house is much improved. It will also help us keep our home more protected from poor air quality on the front range. We used to need to open and close windows a lot to get air flow. I would say that using a heat pump has increased our warming electricity costs but brought down our gas usage significantly. I wouldn't say it is saving us money in the winter, just shifting costs to electricity. Overall,  we highly recommend them!

They guided us in performing worthwhile upgrades to our home insulation and sealing to optimize the size of heat pump (again, saving money and energy). My wife and I appreciated the way they gave us the information we needed without overwhelming us. Their installation staff were dedicated to getting our system installed and configured exactly as we need it and keeping the space cleaned up after them. Our house is more comfortable, we have a smart thermostat, and it's great peace of mind knowing it will last for a long time. The new system takes up less space inside and they located the exterior part in a better location compared to our old A/C unit. When I first decided to get a heat pump, a different company was referred to me, and meeting with them was not great.  They didn't give me enough information.  I'm so glad I waited and found Just Heat Pumps.  They gave me so much more information and communication was always clear and thorough.  Erin and Xerxes were both wonderful.  And they have followed up with me and been out to make sure everything is perfect.  I am very satisfied with my heat pump.
