There is an unfortunate part of the customer service and trades world where being taken advantage of can happen if you aren’t working with a company that values honesty.
Whether you are young, old, inexperienced, or just lacking knowledge, it can be easy for someone to sell you something at a higher price, tell you you need something when you don’t, or just confuse you in the process of getting something done in your home.
This is why vetting a company you want to allow into your home and spend your money with matters.
Hannah is a young homeowner: the kind of homeowner that could be taken advantage of by a company that didn’t have her best interest in mind, but lucky for her – we couldn’t have been more excited to help her explore her options for a heat pump for her home.
The Home
This 900+ square foot home was built in 2008 and was recently purchased by Hannah’s parents, who bought her the house as her first starter home.
Their motivation for getting a heat pump installed in this home was to help raise the value of the home, and what better way to do so than helping that home become energy efficient and comfortable all year round? We were ready to get to work.

What Was The Install Like?
This home had your typical furnace/AC combo that was just about a refresh on equipment with nothing unexpected. Which means the install was simple and straightforward, and while we love a good challenge, we also love when the process is clear cut.
Hannah got an LG Red 2 ton unit installed, which was the perfect fit for her smaller home. Design is just as important so we aren’t installing something that is unnecessarily big for someone’s home.
This again, is why honesty and trust is so key in the company you decide to bring into your home. Hannah could have been talked into a larger system that cost more money had she worked with someone that wanted to take advantage of her.
Our first pass came in bigger than it needed to be. Rather than just sell them the larger system, we went back, revisited the design, and switched it to a smaller system that still did everything they needed. We always want to design what is best for the home, and that is what we did
Equipment Used:
- LG RED KUSXA301A 2.5 Ton Ducted Cold Climate Heat Pump
- LG RED KNSLA301A 2.5 Ton Ducted Cold Climate Air Handler
- 5KW Heat Strip Backup for peace of mind and those extra-cold nights.
- LG’s premium wired + wireless thermostat with the LG ThinQ app enabled.

The Payoff
Hannah and her mother found us through the Xcel-approved contractor list, so stacking all the juicy rebates was non-negotiable for this family.
In total, Hannah got nearly $7,000 in Xcel Energy and Heat Pump Tax Credit rebates, and $10,500 in HEAR rebates (no longer available unfortunately). What is available now instead of HEAR, however, are the $1,500 Power Ahead rebates.
No matter your age, knowledge, experience, or even the research you have or haven’t done, we would be honored to help you throughout the process of getting a heat pump into your home. Our goal is never to take advantage of any of our customers, but to use our expertise to help you understand everything from the equipment to the rebates.
We are here when you are ready to learn more. If you are just now curious about what a heat pump is and how it works, check out this episode where Xerxes and Erin, our co-founders, dive deep into the process in a digestible way.
