Nothing excites us more than someone who cares about quality. Someone who doesn’t just want us to come in and swap out the old system, but does their research and chooses us because they know the way a heat pump is designed and installed matters.
We love working with homeowners who are environmentally-minded, and are moving towards full electrification as well. Vern had a 30-year career in local water quality, and had already invested in solar, electric cars, air sealing, insulation, and now we’re removing fossil fuels to heat his home (and it’s A/C also). Super cool!
So when Vern found us through the Xcel approved contractors page, he let us know he wanted a contractor that took a whole home approach and would help him understand the ins and outs of how his house performed as an efficient system.
Vern had already invested in efficiency: new siding, new windows installed in 2018, and had a “somewhat” conditioned garage. It was time to get to work to take that efficiency up a few more notches.
The Fix
For Vern’s large 3,000 sq home, we went with a LG Centrally Ducted System. This is one central indoor unit which handles the air, connected to an outdoor heat pump.
That air handler pushes heated or cooled air through the home’s ducts and out the vents in each room, in the same way a conventional system does. So if a home already has good ductwork, this is often the cleanest path.
What Was The Install Like?
Something that stood out to Vern was our team’s willingness and attentiveness to get involved. He met most of the company before we ever even installed anything, answered all of his questions, and kept him informed on the whole process.
Vern was also set on a location of his heat pump before we got to work, but we realized it would be too tight on space. We ended up making the tough decision and with a few tough conversations, we helped convince Vern to move it on the other side of the home.
It can be frustrating when you have your mind made up about where you want to place something in your home, but we knew we wanted to help Vern avoid expensive inspection headaches.
Some contractors will just put a heat pump where the customer wants, but we don’t compromise. We do it right, not just easy.

We also found it funny that Tom (one of our HVAC specialists) and Vern really bonded over some bluegrass and concerts which was triggered by a Grateful Dead dancing bear beanie baby on his nightstand.
We share that because home visits can really feel like two friends hanging out at times (while of course keeping is professional) and we strive to always make all our customers feel comfortable when we step into their home, as we understand it’s an intimate experience.
The Payoff
In our initial design, it included a sub panel but after running the electrical load calculations, we found it wasn’t needed, so we refunded that payment in full, all back in Vern’s pocket. If we realize something isn’t needed, we won’t waste your time or money. Our electrician was able to move some other breakers around and made it fit!
Vern also got a $8,625 Xcel Energy Heat Pump Bonus Rebate + the Colorado state tax credit of $1,000 (for 2026) which saved him $9,625 in total!
