want to work in heat pumps? let’s talk.

Heat pumps are the fastest-growing trade in the country.
The homes are lining up for modern, efficiency heating and cooling systems.
The question is who’s going to build them.

Just Heat Pumps is a fast-growing Denver-based heat pump installation company focused 100% on high-performance heat pump systems. We’re building a small, elite team that cares about craftsmanship, communication, and clean air, not just speed.

We hire for character and aptitude first, then build your skills together.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

You’ll work directly alongside our lead apprentice installers on real residential heat pump projects across the Denver Metro and Front Range. This is physical, technical, rewarding work in homes.

  • Field Work
    • Supply runs picking up materials and parts to keep jobs moving on time
    • Building concrete equipment pads for outdoor heat pump units
    • Assisting installers on install days carrying, staging, cleaning & supporting
    • Measuring, cutting, and learning ductwork
    • Helping mount air handlers and indoor units
    • Routing and protecting refrigerant line sets
    • Assisting pressure testing, deep vacuum pulls, and system startup
    • Organizing and tidying the warehouse and job sites
    • Doing whatever it takes to keep the team moving efficiently
  • Learning and Growth:
    • You will be learning how a professional install operation runs from the ground up.
    • You will see how a poorly sealed duct system impacts real performance.
    • You will learn why airflow is often the hidden failure point.

Each week you’ll spend time on structured training covering heat pump fundamentals, airflow, duct design, refrigeration cycles, and commissioning best practices. You’ll work through open-ended problems alongside our lead installers and founders. You’ll turn ideas into real improvements, not just presentations.

You don’t have to be perfect at all of this on day one—but you need to be honest about what you know, hungry to improve, and comfortable with learning. You don’t need HVAC experience. You don’t need a degree. You need to be hardworking, reliable, and honest.

WHO YOU ARE (CHARACTER-FIRST)

We care more about who you are than how long your resume is.

You’ might be a great fit if’ll thrive here if:

  • When you make a mistake, you say so immediately and work to fix it.
  • You don’t cut corners because it’s faster.
  • You do it right because that’s who you are.
  • You’re calm and respectful in customer homes, even when the day gets hard.
  • You show up on time, ready, and prepared.
  • You know the team is counting on you.
  • You ask “why” constantly because you actually want to understand.
  • You want your work to matter, to help clean the air, every single day.

You’re aligned with our core values if:

  • You work on improving your craft every week.
  • Your integrity takes no shortcuts.
  • You’re honest about what you know and don’t know.
  • You’re after a positive impact through cleaner air and better homes for real families.
  • You exude disciplined efficiency by showing up planned and prepared..

THE PLACE

You’ll be based in the Denver / Golden Metro area one of the most unique places in the country to work on heat pump systems: Golden sits at the base of the Rockies, where cold snaps, high altitude, and dry air create real mechanical engineering challenges.

You’ll work on homes from 1900 bungalows to 1950s brick ranches to ultra modern builds, each with very different duct systems and design constraints. You’re minutes from Colorado School of Mines and the National Renewable Energy Laboratory.

And within an hour of mountain climates that push equipment to its limits. This is not an office job and not a desk job and certainly not an AI job. This is real work, in real homes, building real systems that strengthen your community.

    WHAT WE OFFER

    • Pay: $20 to $25/hour based on previous hands-on experience.
    • 20 hours minimum per week, frequently 30 to 40, with overtime possible.
    • Performance bonuses tied to your productivity.
    • Direct mentorship from Dr. Xerxes Steirer (PhD physicist, Mines and NREL background) and Erin Shine (BPI-certified energy auditor, 20+ years in sustainability), plus skilled installers who have seen it all and are excited to train new helpers.
    • Exposure to advanced diagnostics tools, real commissioning processes, and end-to-end system design.
