Step 1

First, ask around to see who knows heat pumps in your area. It’s a recent wave of newly arriving technology in the US which is causing confusion in the HVAC industry.

Your own personal network can quickly find the best installers around, help to avoid problems, and may have experience directly if the contractor treated your friends well.

Step 2

Second, educate yourself on the key terms to know to follow the conversations with installation professionals.

These include: COP, SEER, HSPF, VRF and inverter technologies. (See our post explaining these terms)

Step 3

Third, ask your contractor about their design and installation process. The process needs to include five critical steps in order to be effective, correctly done and maintain several warranty scenarios. (See our questions to verify your contractor)

Step 4

Fourth, Ask if they can provide a permit and a copy of their insurance, and wait till they send you those documents before signing anything.

A bad install is one thing, but an accident in your home with an uninsured contractor spells disaster.

That’s the short homeowner process for finding a professional and skilled heat pump installer. Feel free to contact us with any heat pump questions you have, and be sure to include heat pump contractor help in the subject line.
